Our Work

CultureSeed’s flagship programs are at least a year in duration and many of our youth return year after year.

Whole Circle Approach

Our Methods

  1. Long-term: CultureSeed offers long-term programming to nurture trust.

  2. Outdoors: CultureSeed considers access to nature a social determinant of health.

  3. Wellness: CultureSeed nurtures healing through the mind/body connection.

  4. Adaptive: CultureSeed meets youth where they are.

  5. Place-based: CultureSeed nurtures understanding, wonder and belonging in our home, the Columbia Gorge.

  6. Village Work: CultureSeed acts as a conduit for members of the village to show up in meaningful ways, and for resources and opportunity to be offered to the youth we serve and their families.

Outcomes

1. Connection to Nature, Self and Others

  • Youth are resourced to participate and benefit from the outdoor recreation in our region, to access meaningful opportunities in the outdoor economy, as well as opportunities for employment and leadership within CultureSeed. Youth understand the value of time spent outside.

  • Youth have increased ability to regulate their emotions and understanding of how the mind/body relationship shapes their behaviors, thoughts and emotions. Youth feel supported in their behavioral health journey and in their journey to adulthood, through an interconnected community of caring mentors, CultureSeed staff, peers, and behavioral health professionals. Medicaid gaps are addressed by decentralizing and destigmatizing mental health so that it is more widely understood, prioritized and cared for.

  • The families of the youth CultureSeed serves have an increased network of support, continuous access to emergency funds, are knowledgeable of community resources and opportunities, and engaged in the development of CultureSeed’s family support efforts.

2. Inclusion in Outdoor Work and Play

Youth have access to outdoor play and economic opportunity through the outdoor industry of their home.
